Why companies choose ASTCAD for engineering design
Multidisciplinary in-house team
Single-vendor responsibility across mechanical, structural, civil, electrical and process. No coordination overhead between three different consultancies.
Australian Standards expertise
Every design audited for AS / NCC / BCA compliance before release. Our quality engineers review against the relevant standards section-by-section.
Fast turnaround at scale
24-hour quote on every brief, project kick-off within one week, full design teams available for fast-track work. Capacity to run multiple parallel projects.
Cost-effective vs in-house
Engage design capacity by the hour, week or month — pay only for work delivered. No salaries, no benefits, no software licences, no idle-time overhead.
1,000+ projects delivered since 2010
Across mining, oil & gas, defence, construction, manufacturing, marine, automotive and aerospace sectors. Track record matters.
NDA-signed and IP-protected
Every engagement starts with NDA. Project work in isolated folders, version-controlled, audit-trailed. Your IP stays yours.
Engineering design services — FAQ
What’s the difference between engineering design and drafting?
Engineering design is the development of the technical solution — the engineering decisions, calculations, sizing, material selection and configuration. Drafting is the production of the drawings that communicate that design. Most projects involve both, with a clear handoff: engineers design, drafters document. ASTCAD provides both services under one roof — see our drafting services for production drawings only, or this page for the full design-and-draft workflow.
Are your engineering designs certified?
Yes — for designs requiring certification we provide RPEQ-certified outputs (Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland) for QLD projects, and equivalent state-registered engineering certification for other states. Designs include calculations, sign-off, and supporting documentation as needed for council submission, BCA compliance, or contractual obligation.
Can you do design-only without producing drawings?
Yes. We offer design-only engagements that produce calculations, design reports, and recommendations without drawing deliverables — useful when you have in-house drafting capacity but need engineering expertise. Equally, we offer drafting-only engagements when you have the design and need production documentation.
How long does an engineering design project take?
Timeline varies with complexity. A single component design can take 1–2 weeks. A small fabrication design pack (5–20 drawings) typically runs 3–6 weeks. A full process plant or commercial building project may span 3–12 months across multiple design phases. We provide indicative timeline at quote stage and weekly milestone updates throughout.
Do you provide FEA and simulation as part of design?
Yes. Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and other simulation services are available either bundled into a design engagement or as standalone services. We use ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation and MSC Nastran depending on requirements. See our FEA services page for more.
